Run Merrickville Returns to in-person event!

The organizing committee for Run Merrickville is thrilled to announce they are returning to an in-person format for the Merrickville Heritage Classic in 2023.  The race date is April 29th, 2023.

Registration is open and can be accessed through Race Roster or through the Run Merrickville Website, run-merrickville.ca

Working through the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 race was cancelled and then went to a virtual format in 2021 and 2022.

Planning for the 2023 event is already underway with updated traffic safety and emergency plans, medals are ordered through the Alloy Foundry here in Merrickville and volunteers will be contacted to assist with registration, food services and to be marshals at the barriers along the race routes, among other necessary roles.

The committee has reached out to the new council, seeking its support for the 2023 event.  There are new faces around the Run Merrickville planning table as the committee moves ahead with succession planning and the new committee members and new council members need to be introduced to each other to foster a positive working relationship.

“The goal of Run Merrickville is to encourage participation in a running and walking event open to all ages and levels of physical fitness,” says Race Director Lori Reynolds.

“We certainly achieved this as evidenced by the number of runners we have attracted in our 8 years of operation along with the overwhelming support of our volunteers” she added.

Outgoing Volunteer Coordinator, Sally MacInnis said “The people of Merrickville-Wolford came out in droves to support the run. There are over 100 volunteers acting as marshals at barricades and cheering stations, taking photographs, handing out water, or preparing food for the returning runners.  Other residents grab a coffee and stand on their porches or sidewalks cheering on the runners as they pass by.”

The committee is looking forward to another successful run.
