Run Merrickville Turns Virtual
Race Director, Lori Reynolds, is excited to announce that Run Merrickville has turned to a virtual format for 2021.
She said, “after the disappointment of being forced to cancel the 2020 event and the continuing issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic the organizing committee decided the only safe way to proceed is with a virtual event.
The event will be held between May 15th and 29th giving runners and walkers an opportunity to complete the activity at their leisure. Registration is now open through Race Roster and results must be posted on Race Roster by midnight May 29th.
Although not monitored by volunteers or closed to traffic, participants are welcome to use the designated running routes here in Merrickville. Maps can be viewed on the website www.run-merrickville.ca Reynolds says.
In addition to the 2km, 5km and 10km events the committee has established a 1/2 marathon category for this year called the Heritage Half.
The committee is continuing with the tradition of issuing participation medals made here in Merrickville’s Alloy Foundry.
As in previous years, money in excess of that needed to operate Run Merrickville will be donated. This year, because the pandemic has caused financial hardship locally through reduced incomes and job losses, a donation will be made to the Food Cupboard here in Merrickville.
In the past Five years donations have been made:
-
- In support of the new play structure at Merrickville Public School
- To the Trails Society in Support of the Story Book Trail project
- To the Seaway Surge in support of baseball opportunities for area youth
- The Merrickville Soccer Club
- Food Cupboard
The committee has set the fees at $25.00 for the 2km event and $35.00 for the 5km, 10km and 1/2 marathon events.
Athletics Ontario has issued Virtual Race Safety Recommendations. Please read the post where we list these recommendations.
Enjoy your run and run safely!
